Anna Sui SS13 Beauty Inspiration & The Living Doll Debate

Oh how we love the never-ending visual fun of Anna Sui shows... the rebellious pretty punk attitude that goes hand in hand with her youthful designs!  For spring the designer took individual bold eyeshadow shades to an opaque level, all while polishing the model's beauty looks off with a combination of punchy red lips and candy floss hair.  Seen all over the runways worldwide, was the return of the pastel-shaded hair colour (even Oscar de la Renta fuzed sophistication with pop a la Holly Golightly for their spring show).  If Warhol could see us all now, I'm sure he'd deliver an accepting nod of approval to his silkscreen-inspired beauty looks making a lasting comeback in fashion.  I guess the master of it all gets more than a mere fifteen minute window of fame...

Looking for hue cues?

Pat McGrath created the look for the Sui show using a palette of bright orange, navy blue, and ruby reds.  While we love trying looks right off the catwalk, why not mix it up a little and switch lip colour for nail, blush for eye... who knows what you'll come up with!

It seems as though the Valley of the Dolls theme is very "in" right now... have you seen all the press the real-life Barbie doll girls have been getting?  They are famous for their Japanese anime similarities (while I think it's an interesting angle to approach in beauty, there still seems to be something unsettling about it all...).  There are always specific fashion week shows I look forward to, for the very reason of seeing their larger than life beauty plans play out.  Dress up is a nice limit to take it to, not sure I'd want to actually embody it myself.  Thoughts?  Would you feel comfortable portraying your beauty in a doll-like fashion?

Are you a fan of Anna's designs and makeup forecast for SS13?

Love it or leave it... you tell me!
