Keepin' It Clean - 5 Ways To Take Off Your Makeup And Not Irritate Sensitive Skin

Makeup (especially the expressive kind) can really get tough to take off with just your everyday cleanser.  How many of us out there have gotten fed up with the red, irritated eyes and skin that come along with this tedious task?  Heavy makeup can call for serious clean up - but how do you accomplish the fresh and clean without stripping sensitive skin of its natural pH and beauty?

A few tips and tricks I've come to love over the years...

  1. Find an amazing makeup remover/wipe that is gentle and doesn't make you break out.  Annabelle's Non-Oily Eye Makeup Remover Pads and Moisturizing Eye Makeup Remover Pads are my go-to staples when it comes to quick transformations.
  2. Don't rely on your regular cleanser to do the dirty work.  Now if you're at all like me (one who wears makeup religiously every day), you expect your face wash to really step up its game and take off everyday makeup all by itself.  Wrong.  While there are a few amazing formulas out there that will do the job, most will simply rid your skin of the noticeable while leaving a pore-clogging debris behind.  No good.  A great way of enhancing its cleansing power is to wet your face first and apply olive oil all over (argan is also an amazing alternative).  Oil naturally breaks makeup down gently, which will allow you to use the cleanser after to wash everything off.
  3. Ditch the cotton pads and Q-tips and use your fingers!  Less friction = less irritation!  Use your fingers and makeup remover/oil as a cleanser with water and rub it into stubborn spots.  The more you get off solely from dissolving your makeup products, the more your skin will thank you in the end (pulling and tugging only increase redness and irritability)!
  4. If you have really dry and sensitive skin, try a heavy moisturizer or cold cream to take off makeup.  The secret of stars such as Marilyn Monroe, it's an older beauty trick that has really stood the test of time.
  5. Minimize wearing waterproof formulas.  While the coverage and performance may be ideal for rainy days, beach moments, or emotional roller coasters, if you think you can go without wearing the waterproof formula of a makeup product - do.  Not only is it tough to remove at the end of the day, but it really takes it's toll on drying your skin/lashes out.  Use accordingly!

What about you beautiful makeup junkies?  Have any tried, tested and true ways I didn't mention?  Share!
